2016 Annual Ontario Chamber Awards and Recognition Banquet

On Sept. 15th a crowd of over 90 consisting of Ontario residents and businesses gathered at the Ontario Country Club to honor the recipients of the chamber’s annual awards. (For more photos click here)

Donna Burolla, President, commented she was very happy to see so many in attendance and that this is one evening the chamber can pull together the residents and businesses of the community under one roof; and when that happens who knows what the outcome will be!

During the evening door prize winners where announced by MC, Jim Switzer. Over 100 door prizes were collected by Ray Cedruly, Community Liaison, and Cheryl Legg, Secretary, ranging from gift baskets, bottles of wine, gift certificates and more.

A 50/50 raffle was held with the chamber proceeds going toward funding the Community Scholarship to the 2017 Wayne Central graduate who has accumulated the most hours in community service during their high school years.

The following awards were presented:

2016 – Business of the Year – Altra Rental & Supply, 2127 NYS Rt. 104, owned by Jim Pedulla

2016 – Most Improved Businesses – Lakeside Diner, 6270 Lakeside Diner, owned by Jimmy and Niki Amaxopoulos and Aaron Preston Landscaping Center, owned by Aaron Preston, 1640 NYS Rt. 104

2016 – Community Organization of the Year – Good Samaritan Clothes Closet, located in the lower floor of the Baptist Church, 1929 Ridge Rd.

2016 – Volunteer of the Year – Karin Pickard for her work with special needs children and dedication to community organizations

2016 – Citizen of the Year – Virginia “Ginny” Molino for her development of a music therapy program at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance

2016 – Lifetime Achievement Award – Jim Switzer for over 45 years involvement in government, many volunteer hours to community organizations and unresolved dedication to promoting the Town of Ontario

Nominations and elections were also held and the following officers were each elected for a two year term (2016-2018): Donna Burolla, President; Sherry Verstraete, Vice President; Cheryl Legg, Secretary; and Jim Switzer, Treasurer.

Roger Legg was thanked for his previous years of service as a Board of Director. Brian Natale, Farmers Insurance Agent, 1648 NYS Rt. 104, was elected to a 3-year term (2016-2019) as a Board of Director. Vicki Steele was also remembered for her years of service on the board. She recently resigned her position and Carolyn Grim, Director of Sales, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 860 Holt Rd., Webster, was elected to fill the remaining one-year term (2016-2017) as a Board of Director.
