Birthright has been providing services to the community for about thirty years.

Nora Craft, director of Birthright of Ontario states that “we are open to helping girls that are pregnant that may have no other resources”. We have a lovely book that has government as well as private agencies to help these women. I say women because not all of our clients are young girls. We have had women in their thirties and forties with unexpected pregnancies and may be out of work. We are here and we will help anybody that needs our services. Sometimes our clients will just come here and hang with the ladies. It is just a safe place.

In the beginning of a pregnancy, we encourage women to carry the child to term. If the mother doesn’t want the child, we can connect the mother with adoption services, if they choose that route. Once the child is born, we provide the mother with a layette full of newborn necessities, usually including a bathtub. We are allowed to provide services for the child until they reach two years of age. Birthright can not provide furniture, however Birthright will direct clients to other resources that will provide things such as strollers when available. Birthright has connections with Head Start, Victims Resource Center, and Hope House to name a few.

Funding for Birthright comes from private sources, such as individuals, churches and a little coming from United Way. Birthright also depends on donations, such as diapers, baby powder, quilts or knitted items, and clothing. Several local organizations have baby showers just for us. These showers provide us with many of the items we use during the year.

Birthright currently has half a dozen volunteers. However we are always looking for more help. There is a low key training regime that each volunteer must take.

Our goal is to make people more aware of our presence here in Ontario. To that end we are working on a web page and facebook page. We would also like to be open every day.

Birthright hours of operation are: Monday morning 10 to 12, Monday afternoon 2 to 4

Tuesday morning 10 to 12, Wednesday afternoon 2 to 4

Thursday morning 10 to 12

Please call first before you come.
