Deb Bechtold is the owner and only employee of DEB’s Lunch Box. Deb started her business based on a dream of her friend, Jim. Jim was planning to put a hot dog cart on the corner of 104 and Dean Parkway when he retired. Unfortunately he passed away before realizing his dream. It was Jim’s dream that encouraged Deb to give it a try. As it turns out, Jim had a pretty good idea because DEB’s Lunch Box has been in business for five years now. Deb has developed a faithful clientele and they followed her when she moved to David Parkway.

Along with the daily menu, DEB’s Lunch Box makes anything but fried food. Deb said, “A favorite is the Hog Back Loaded Mac which consists of Top Secret Mac Salad and Range Dust Baked Beans with Sausage. Joe’s Top Round Shaved Steak Sandwiches are also very popular. I make a meat sauce which is very different from what you typically get in the area. My customers put it on everything. I run specials daily to keep things interesting.” DEB’s Lunch Box will also cater your events. Deb has a simple catering menu, “You tell me what you want to eat and I’ll make it. I can make anything.” The food trailer will show up at your location ready to serve your guests hot and fresh food.

The food trailer was built in Ontario by a friend with the help of a local businesses. “I purchased the base trailer from Factory Direct Trailers and started outfitting it. The trailer was designed by educated guess, but it works perfectly.” The trailer is completely self-contained, including a generator if needed and took about two years to complete. The final task before opening the business was to have the trailer inspected and a permit issued.

Ontario has been most cooperative in this endeavor. “I called John Smith, our Town Supervisor, to request setting up in the town parking lot last year for the Ridge Road Rummage Run. It was a great success. I love Ontario. It is the epitome of the American small town.”

One interesting aspect of this business is that a little community has grown up around it. ”It is like the days when customers gathered at Neisner’s or Woolworth’s lunch counters. Folks are introduced to their business neighbors at my counter. My daily emails not only tell you what is special that day, but communicates the goings on of the customers and businesses in our community.”

Deb opens at other sites in Wayne County on days that she is not at David Parkway. Send her an email to find her current location and menu.
