BL Design was founded in 2005 by bass guitar craftsman extraordinaire, Beau Leopard. To date, Beau has made over 50 custom, one-of-a-kind bass guitars. His dream and passion for building instruments dates further back, however, all the way to Beau’s childhood. Growing up, Beau was constantly building things with his father, from skateboard ramps to various other woodworking projects. As you can imagine, Beau excelled in shop class in school growing up. At this time, music became a big part of Beau’s life as well. After learning to play the bass guitar, Beau quickly unearthed a desire to build his own.
BL Design mainly creates and sells these unique bass guitars locally, however, musicians nationwide and even internationally have sought out a custom bass guitar from BL Design.
When you work with Beau at BL Design, you are not only buying a bass guitar, you are getting the experience of having a one-of-a-kind instrument made for you. BL Design provides clients with a guided in-depth process of determining specifications and choosing woods, finishes, electronics, and hardware. The sound, feel, construction, and aesthetic considerations are equally important. Attention to detail is paramount. Beau spends a great deal of time talking with clients about their needs and desires for their custom instrument. During the build, he provides a regularly updated photo gallery of the build process as well as a 3D CAD preview of the finished instrument. When the bass is complete, customers can expect continuous support for whatever questions or needs they may have regarding their new instrument.
Of course, like in any business, there are people that help make it all possible, and for Beau and BL Design, that is the many clients who have trusted him over the years and his wonderful wife Amy. He credits them for helping him realize his passion for making one-of-a-kind bass guitars and furniture.
In the future, Beau plans to one day exhibit at a National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) trade show and possibly expand his product offerings into other instruments such as electric guitars. In the meantime, he is going to continue creating world-class custom bass guitars for anyone looking to stand out from the crowd and sound great doing it.
